Apple Twist Milk Loaf

This is a sweet bread that is perfect for thanksgiving season! A soft loaf that’s filled with chopped apples and drizzled in a sweet topping. Since we are covering recipes made with dairy products this month I wanted to add this milk bread in. You won’t regret making it!

APPLE TWIST LOAF

For the base bread recipe we start with our favorite country loaf recipe.

We are going to need to peel and chop up some apples for this!

We have added chopped apples, cinnamon and brown sugar to the center after rolling out the dough after the second rise.

Once the filling has been added we will twist the loaf up and place in the pan to rise a second time.

To do this we roll up jelly roll style, then cut slits over the top to expose the filling inside! Then after allowing the bread to rise once more you will bake.

Once you bake the bread and remove from the oven it’s time to drizzle our delicious glaze over the top!

It tastes as delicious as it looks! We alway cut in while it’s hot because who can wait that long? It goes well with a big glass of cider!

Ingredients

  • 1/4 tsp warm milk
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 2 tablespoon sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 6 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tablespoons soft butter
  • 2 cups milk

Filling

  • 5 tbsp butter soft
  • 1 1/2 cups apples chopped small
  • 2 tsp cinnamon
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar

Glaze

  • 2 cups powder sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • just enough milk to make a glaze start with 2 tsp

Instructions

  • Mix together Milk, Yeast and Sugar in a bowl and allow to sit in a bowl together until foamy. (about 5 minutes).
  • At this point you’ll add all of the ingredients listed below with the yeast mixture to a bread machine and only use on the dough setting. Do not bake in it!
  • If using a bread machine, add all ingredients listed in the machine. But do not bake in it!
  • If you're doing by hand, mix everything together.
  • Add your yeast mixture and continue mixing until everything is combined. Knead your dough well.
  • Let rise in a WARM place. An oven barely heated for a minutes works well for this. This should take 1 hour for the dough to rise. Sometimes you have to allow your dough to rise longer if the kitchen is cold.
  • Once risen you will roll out the dough into a rectangle and place your filling onto it.
  • Roll up jelly roll style, then cut slits to expose the filling.
  • Allow to rise once more until doubled in size.
  • Bake on 350 for 45 minutes or until light brown.
  • Mix together glaze and pour over the bread as soon as you take it out of the oven. We enjoy this bread warm!

And since we love to eat this along side cider, here is the recipe for that as well! Enjoy friends!
