Natural Over night Creme (two versions)

Hello friends! Welcome to this months series on natural skincare. I wanted to share my favorite basic recipes for what I’ve used to replace all my old skincare products full of chemicals and other junk. I ditched everything and haven’t looked back because not only has my skin improved, it’s gotten so much healthier!

I struggled with very dry skin and many dark spots due to sun exposure that I tried for years to get rid of. Since dropping all the fragrance and chemicals and switching to all natural products it has healed!

However skin will always be skin. I think the perfect filters and makeup really gives us a dim point of view when it comes to that. Skin isn’t meant to be perfect. I wish everyone could realize they are truly beautiful in the skin God gave them. But marketing agencies present unrealistic results to sell their products that do more harm than good. Skin has texture, people have wrinkles, breakouts happen, and thats ok!

Now we can keep our skin looking healthy and radiant as possible! When looking to nature, I think it’s amazing to see God gave us everything we would need to create wonderful skincare that works.

I’m excited to share some recipes that I found work great for our family. All of them can be made in your own kitchens right at home, no laboratory needed!  Since it’s the month of love of course we had to turn everything pink! I love Valentines and celebrating those I love. My husband, kids, family and friends!

Please feel encouraged to package up any extra goodies you make from this series and pass along to a friend that might enjoy it too!

Pictured above is the gang we will be learning all about this month. We are covering quite a few products, however most of them have the same ingredients. They are slightly altered to fit the specific need for areas and creating different textures.

We provided clickable links below in case you need to find any of these products to make your own skincare products with!

INGREDIENTS

SHEA BUTTER –  Shea butter is a thick moisturizer for the skin. It doesn’t clog the pores and leaves skin soft without any greasy feeling.

TALLOW – This boosts your night creme by adding some intense moisturizing properties. It soaks right into the skin leaving it silky smooth!

OLIVE OIL – Olive oil creates a barrier, acting as second skin. This is especially wonderful during winter when our skin needs moisturizing the most!

ESSENTIAL OIL – This is completely optional. You can leave it out or use any type you like, but keep in mind that some might cause tingling (like peppermint or eucalyptus) or sensitive to burns (citrus).

PINK FRENCH CLAY It is a wonderful antioxidant, but lets be honest- I just love the color!

ALKANET POWDER – Full of healing properties it also prevents skin from infections and inflammation. Alkanet is also a beautiful color that gives natural skincare a glow!

OILS TO ADD IN FOR HEALING, ANTI AGING AND OTHER PROPERTIES

Add a dropper full containing any of the following oils after removing the bowl from the double boiler and stirring everything together.

RED RASPBERRY OIL -    RR oil acts as a barrier for your skin to hold in moisture. Packed with vitamin A & E this oil is a wonderful anti aging oil. It slows the process while keeping skin super soft. This is also used to make natural sunscreen since it protects the skin from UVA rays.

BORAGE OIL - This oil speeds up the cell regeneration. It contains 23% gamma linolenic acid. This acid is one of the most effective agents for maintaining healthy skin! This oil helps prevent wrinkles and signs of aging by keeping the skin soft and supple.

VITAMIN E OIL - This is one of the most popular of oils for moisturizing skin and preventing dry skin! It fades dark spots and scars along with being a wonderful antioxidant.

MARULA OIL – This is not only an incredible oil for hair, but skin as well. It is high in antioxidants fatty acids and amino acids.

PRICKLY PEAR CACTUS OIL – This oil is gentle and good for most all skin types. It gentle and soothing for those with acne prone skin, dry, sensitive or inflamed skin. The components in this oil help to improve the tone of your skin and the texture.

Q & A FOR NIGHT CREME

IS THIS A LIGHT CREME?

No. This is a thick heavier cream for moisturizing coverage.

HOW DOES THIS FEEL ON MY SKIN?

This is an overnight cream so it lays heavier. After it has been on the skin 5 minutes it soaks right in. If you have super dry skin this is also a wonderful creme to combat that.

DOES THIS CREME CLOG POURS?

My skin is quite sensitive and I have never had trouble. This is the only over night creme I use and it works wonderful. In the morning I always wash my face good to create a fresh clean slate to put on my whipped tallow lotion for the day.

CAN I USE ANOTHER OIL BESIDE OLIVE OIL?

Yes! If you want to really gage a different problem in your skin there are so many other oils out there to customize with. Sunflower, almond, jojoba, etc.

I DON’T HAVE  MY OWN TALLOW. CAN I BUY THIS SOMEWHERE?

Yes! This is available in stores now and online. You want to look for grass fed/organic. Here is a good option and you would get an entire batch of soap + a lot left over for your skincare from this tub!

I WANT TO KEEP THINGS SIMPLE

If you want a very basic night creme ONLY use the shea, tallow, and olive oil. I went ahead and included the basic recipe for those who don’t want to fuss with too many ingredients.

HOW MUCH DO I USE?

Apply only a pea sized amount. Remember, chemical based cosmetics have fillers to give cremes more air so you will have to use more. This is pure and naturally good ingredients that are packed with lots of moisturizing ability. A little goes a very long way!

MY SKIN IS SUPER OILY. CAN I STILL USE THIS?

We all have different skin types. If you find this too oily you can half the recipe and pour it into a chapstick tube. It makes the most healing eye balm as well! You will benefit by adding in oils that have anti aging properties.

LET’S TAKE A LITTLE LOOK AT THE TEXTURE

You can see here this creme will stand nicely on its own, but make sure to place it in the refrigerator right after you pour into jars for the first time. It needs to set. I like to store my products under the sink so they stay in a cool dry place. You can keep in the fridge, but it will definitely be a bit more firm. This is a personal preferance!
